Fall Destinations For Travel Nurses

Autumn is a wonderful time a year, a favorite season for many with the opportunity to enjoy colorful foliage, tasty seasonal cuisine and a reprieve from the heat of summer. If you’re a travel nurse thinking about where to search for an assignment in a destination that provides the best of the best when it comes to fall delights, be sure to put these destinations on your list of possibilities.

Massachusetts

With a travel nursing job in Massachusetts, you’ll be in the heart of some of the best autumn brings, including those brilliant orange, golden yellows and fiery red hues. Boston is an exciting city that offers lots for history lovers as well as fantastic nightlife and an endless array of restaurants with the chance to sample just about any type of cuisine from around the world. An assignment in the Berkshires means having beautiful hiking and biking trails lined with a kaleidoscope of colors at your doorstep, with the blazing sugar maple trees particularly stunning. No matter where you land in this state, odds are, the pay will be very good, and you’ll have a long list of things to do in your off time, like fall festivals or day trips. October is ideal for an excursion to Salem, by train or by car, which hosts Halloween events throughout the month.

California

Many cities in the Golden State are known for their high travel nursing pay rates, but there are lots of destinations where you can enjoy fall favorites too. The fall is one of the best times to be in San Francisco, often with more sunny days than summer. In California’s wine country areas, from Napa and Sonoma to Gold Country, the Central Coast and beyond, you’ll be able to take part in harvest-related events while sipping all sorts of fine vino. The weather is great down in the Los Angeles and San Diego area too for enjoying those beautiful stretches of sand and countless attractions.

Colorado

For outdoor adventure among soaring mountains covered in a blanket of vibrant yellow, the Rocky Mountain State is hard to beat. Working in Denver, you’ll be just steps away from a thriving shopping and dining scene, and just a 90-minute drive from Rocky Mountain National Park. Renowned for its golden aspens and abundant wildlife, autumn brings frequent sightings of elk. In fact, as you hike the high-elevation trails, you’re likely to hear the echo of their bugling sounds, as this is rutting season, a time when the male elk are vying for the hearts of their female counterparts.

Vermont

If big cities aren’t your thing but smaller, postcard-perfect villages are, Vermont may be calling. One of the top nursing assignment destinations for vibrant foliage, it’s filled with tranquil country lanes and charming towns with old-fashioned general stores, towering church steeples and covered bridges that are highlighted with striking hues of fall color. While Woodstock, Middlebury, Stowe and Manchester are a few of the favorites, Burlington is a great place to be as well. While it may be the state’s largest city, it has a laid-back, artsy vibe and friendly locals that give it the feel of a small town, with a population of just around 42,000.

Virginia

Virginia typically has a long list of great jobs for travel nurses, and it’s also home to one of the most scenic roadways in the nation, the Blue Ridge Parkway. Driving it in the autumn is a true bucket list experience, though you’ll find lots more to enjoy this season too, with all sorts of events, including harvest and wine festivals, pumpkin patches and corn mazes. If you like history, you’ll find plenty of sites to explore, like Historic Jamestown, Monticello, Mount Vernon and Williamsburg.

With so many great opportunities for healthcare travelers in the fall, the hard part is going to be deciding which travel nursing job to take!
